    Operational amplifier experiment guide

    Set gain using resistor ratios and find when output clips at the supply rails.

    How does it work?

    Inverting gain is −Rf/Rin and non-inverting gain is 1+Rf/Rin; output stays within the rails.

    Key relationship

    Ainv = −Rf/Rin · Anoninv = 1+Rf/Rin · Vout = clamp(AVin,−Vs,Vs)

    Try this investigation

    1. Set gain using resistor ratios and find when output clips at the supply rails.
    2. Run and record each of the three baseline presets.
    3. Compare the changed variable and its result with the baseline records.

    Interpreting your results

    For a non-inverting circuit with the same resistors, what is the output at +4 V input with ±9 V supply rails?

    9 V

    Assumptions and limitations

    Input current, offset, slew rate and bandwidth are omitted. Only supply saturation is included. Experiment on screen; do not reproduce this with real power supplies, outlets or high voltage.
